Best Practices to Address LGBTQ+ Discrimination and Implicit Bias
The Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) invited RumbergerKirk’s Larry Smith to address “LGBTQ+ Discrimination and Implicit Bias” as part of the sixth installment of the association’s Diversity and Inclusion Certificate program.
New to the OCBA this year, the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate program encompassed six courses focused on different areas of discrimination and implicit bias. Participants in at least five of the six courses will receive the OCBA’s Certificate in Diversity & Inclusion Awareness.
The program goal, according to the OCBA, is to have participants more informed about issues surrounding diversity and inclusion and their own personal implicit biases. Each session featured a moderator and panel of individuals both inside and outside the legal profession, including leaders from each represented community and the broader Central Florida community. Individuals who complete the certification program will be able to display a certification seal/logo on their law firm website as an indicator that they are dedicated to acceptance, allyship, and personal growth in order to better serve a broad range of diverse clientele.
