Jacey Kaps Addresses Data Security for Schools at a Florida School Boards Association Policy Seminar
Jacey Kaps was part of a three-person panel including Blake Dowling of Aegis Business Technologies and moderated by FSBA Executive Director Andrea Messina. They discussed “Data Security for Schools: Risks, Breaches, and Response” during a policy seminar focused on critical technology issues for school districts on March 2, 2018.
“Data security begins at the top of the organization and requires commitment from the entire team since the weakest link in the data protection chain is most often found inside the organization,” said Kaps during the presentation.
The Florida School Boards Association and their policy partner, NEOLA, brought together experts in the fields of technology and data security to offer the school law and policy seminar. It addressed many of the legal issues that are challenging school districts today as a result of student and staff using and misusing technology. The seminar offered participants the information and background needed to address critical technology issues including internet safety for schools, social media policies, archiving electronic communications and public records, and best practices on data security.
