Lan Kennedy-Davis Talks about Work-Life Balance at the Women in Law & Leadership Summit
“Lose the guilt,” said Lan Kennedy-Davis during the Women in Law & Leadership Summit in Miami earlier this month while on a panel discussing work-life balance. “There is no such thing as a perfect decision. Make the best decision you can at that point in time and be confident in your decision. You will be surprised to know that you were more concerned about missing the game than your children,” she advised with experience from trying to balance her career and having a daughter who is now 21 years old.
She also advised those attending the session to surround themselves with supportive people and not be afraid to ask for help. “People don’t know you need help unless you ask. That includes your spouse, parents and friends. Hire sitters when you need, give the school your husband’s contact information too and don’t try to be Wonder Woman. There’s only 24 hours in a day,” she explained.
“Balance is the key. Employers have become more understanding and permit you to work from home or leave early if needed, but don’t forget that you do have obligations to your employer and clients. The work load will still be there.”
