PEEPS® & Provisions: Bringing Sweetness and Support to Our Troops
PEEPS of every color and shape have been packed and shipped along with other treats and necessities to military troops serving overseas as part of the RumbergerKirk troop care package program. This shipment included 20 boxes headed for the U.S.S. Dextrous and other far off places.
Three to four times a year, the RK team rallies to donate personal hygiene items, snacks, and other goodies to ship to troops in remote parts of the world. Items that are otherwise expensive or hard to come by. Each spring, the shipments include cheerful and colorful PEEPS to brighten the days of our hardworking service men and women.
Each troop receives several boxes to share with each other and include everything from the necessities–razors, deodorant, wipes, hand sanitizer, foot powder and socks–as well as magazines, books, coffee, flavored drink mixes, snacks and, yes, PEEPS.
The program began 16 years ago when former RumbergerKirk Legal Assistant Lisa Griffin learned from her son, who was serving in the Marines at the time, that many service people were not receiving mail or care packages. She was inspired to take action and the firm joined in the cause. The rest is history.
This is the first shipment since Lisa’s retirement and it is bittersweet.
“We’re so glad to keep the program going because it touches the lives of so many people,” said Sally Culley, administrative partner in Orlando.
She would know. Her stepson was a recipient of packages to share with his troop when he was deployed overseas last year.
“We’re really proud of his service,” said Sally. “It was a little surreal having my son be a recipient after supporting the program for so many years,” she said. “Now I have a completely different perspective on what this means for the families and the service members.”
