Prominent Trial Lawyer Paul Lipton Joins As Director of Professionalism & Career Development
MIAMI – March 17, 2014 – RumbergerKirk is pleased to announce that respected trial attorney Paul Lipton has joined the firm as Director of Professionalism, Career and Skill Development. Lipton was a successful litigator for more than 40 years and a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig until he retired in 2012. Lipton’s role will be to work with the associates and mentor them in learning their skills, building their brand, discovering their passion and finding successful personal and professional growth, according to Scott Sarason, Administrative Partner of Rumberger’s Miami Office.
“We believe that there is so much more to a fulfilling career than just ‘being smart and working hard,’” said Sarason. “We want to cultivate each generation of our lawyers to be passionate about being a trial lawyer while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. It is a very competitive marketplace, not only in hiring, but in lawyer retention, and RK is taking a forward-thinking approach to provide our lawyers with this opportunity of career development beyond the traditional law firm standard. ”
Lipton is currently the Co-Chair of the Eleventh Circuit Committee on Professionalism in Miami-Dade County.
In January 2013, Rumberger retained Lipton to present on professionalism at one of their quarterly partner meetings which prompted the discussion on what the firm could do to boost attorney professional development. Rumberger later approached Lipton and created the position of Director of Professionalism, Career and Skill Development.
A role like this is not common in law firms, particularly to be occupied by an attorney. Traditionally, in house recruiting personnel are tasked with monitoring associate development. However, the management at Rumberger sees Lipton’s role as far beyond that of traditional associate integration. “As the firm continues its exciting growth, including the recent addition of ten commercial litigation attorneys in our Birmingham office, we arelooking for new and innovative ways to provide an engaging and challenging work environment for our lawyers.” Lipton will work with the associates on a one-on-one basis and in small groups. “We are thrilled that we were able to have someone of Paul’s experience and reputation join the firm in this capacity,” added Sarason. “We are receiving very positive feedback from the attorneys who are engaging with him.”
Lipton is an esteemed keynote speaker and inspirational author. The veteran attorney recently published the book, “Hour of the Wolf-An Experiment in Ageless Living,” which is his personal journey in searching for personal fulfillment and living life without limitations or definitions (available on Amazon and at Barnes and Noble).
During his legal career, Lipton tried numerous jury and non-jury trials in complex commercial, probate, estate and trust litigation involving national and international companies. His areas of law included: complex commercial litigation, real estate and land use litigation, probate and trust and estate litigation, and legal ethics and professional liability.
“I look forward to working with Rumberger’s attorneys to assist them in building their brand and reputation to aid them with business development as they ride the path to partnership. It’s critical that these younger attorneys appreciate the importance of defining themselves within their profession and to potential clients,” adds Lipton.
Lipton has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2009. He earned a law degree from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.
