RumbergerKirk Partner David Willis Receives Third Board Certification
RumbergerKirk attorney David C. Willis of the Orlando office received his Board Certification in Real Estate Law by the Florida Bar. This marks the third Board Certification for Willis. He is also Board Certified in Business Litigation and Construction Law. There are 4,880 lawyers in Florida with Board Certification. Willis is part of only 2% of lawyers that are certified in three areas.
Board certification recognizes attorneys’ special knowledge skills and proficiency, and professionalism and ethics in practice. Established in 1982 by the Florida Supreme Court, certification is the Florida Bar’s highest level of evaluation of the competency and experience of attorneys; board certified lawyers are evaluated for professionalism and tested for expertise. Only seven percent of eligible Florida Bar members are board certified.
Willis focuses his practice on construction and commercial litigation. He represents a variety of owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers, as well as design professionals in all aspects of the construction process from project design, contract negotiation, and construction administration through final close out. Willis has tried and arbitrated a variety of construction disputes including design and construction defects, construction liens, and delay claims. Outside of the courtroom, he has lectured on Florida Construction Lien Law and presented at seminars regarding architect/engineer liability.
As part of his practice, Willis also represents individuals and businesses in intellectual property disputes including those involving patents, copyrights and trademarks, computer software and hardware contracts and internet website disputes. He has successfully represented clients in obtaining temporary and permanent injunctive relief, as well as monetary damages.
Based on his experience litigating contracts and related business disputes, Willis also counsels business clients on various contracts, real estate and non-compete agreements.
He served on The Florida Bar Construction Law Certification Committee from 2010-2016 and has held the vice chair and chair positions. The committee is responsible for reviewing certification applications and preparing the certification examination. Willis served on the Orlando Regional Advisory Committee for the Associated General Contractors of Greater Florida. In addition, he serves on the Business Law Committee and has served on the Technology Subcommittee for the Orange County Bar Association.
