MIAMI – October 13, 2010 – Jacey Kaps, a partner with RumbergerKirk, recently received the 2010 Florida Retail Federation’s (FRF) Chairman Award for outstanding service at the organization’s Awards Banquet during its Annual Meeting in Orlando. Kaps currently serves as the Chairman of the FRF’s Chairman’s Circle.

A statewide trade association founded in 1937, the Florida Retail Federation protects Florida’s retailers by lobbying the state Legislature and providing cost-saving services. FRF promotes a healthy, free enterprise system in Florida in order to strengthen and support a favorable business environment where retailers and their suppliers can grow and prosper.

The Chairman’s Award is an opportunity for the Florida Retail Federation to celebrate and honor one of its own. Each year, the Chairman of the Board of Directors honors a person or company who has gone “above and beyond the call of duty” to the FRF and the retail community.  The Award has a long and proud history, dating back over 25 years, and has been given to employees or retailers representing Wal-Mart, Macy’s (and Burdines), Publix, & Bealls.

Kaps is an active trial attorney focusing on the representation of the domestic retail, restaurant and lodging sectors.  Kaps’ retail law group represents a wide range of clients with the depth and capabilities to handle the issues that matter to retailers including commercial and transactional disputes, construction disputes, intellectual property litigation, labor compliance, Medicare compliance, employment litigation, constitutional challenges and casualty litigation. Kaps also consults with the retail sector in overall litigation management.

Kaps is one of the founding members of the Chairman’s Circle becoming its Chair in the inaugural year.  Since then Kaps has worked both within and outside the Florida Retail Federation to build the Chairman’s Circle into a vigorous group that can provide value to both the members of the Florida Retail Federation and the Chairman’s Circle itself. 

Kaps heads up RumbergerKirk’s retail law group and sits on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Kaps is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal with a degree in History with first class honors and received his Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University with distinction in advocacy.  He has been twice commended by the Florida Supreme Court for service to the Guardian Ad Litem Program, awarded a Public Service Fellowship and Goodwin Research Fellowship.
