Rumberger’s Cookin’ Counselors Strike Again: Team’s Smokin’ Hot Chili Wins 2nd Place for the Second Consecutive Year
Congratulations to RK’s Birmingham Chili Cook-off Team for placing second place at the 11th Annual Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook-off for the second consecutive year.
The competition this year was hotter than ever with 100 teams competing for the top spot, but the Cookin’ Counselors did not crack under pressure. “Scott took charge of making the chili again, and we used his same recipe from last year,” said Rebecca Beers an associate in RK’s Birmingham office. “We used spicy sausage from Conecuh County to give the chili a smoky flavor and combined about six pounds of it with 10-15 pounds of ground beef,” she continued.
Never ones to back down from a challenge, the team assembled in the cool, early morning to prepare the chili and perfect the seasonings so this year’s result would match the quality and expectation of last year’s. And, thanks to Scott’s double boiler system, the team avoided burning the chili, which plagues a lot of the other teams noted Rebecca. In the end, the team made several gallons of chili.
They would need a lot of chili since more than 12,000 people attended the event to raise funds for the Exceptional Foundation.
“We had another great year with outstanding participation,” said Scott, a partner in the Birmingham office. “It was clearly the place to be on that Saturday in Birmingham and the event raised more than $275,000 for a very worthy cause,” he continued. “I’m particularly proud of our team who beat out every other law firm that participated, which is almost every firm in town.”
