On March 13, 2015, Fellows from the Inaugural Class of the Dade Legal Aid Leadership Academy had the distinct pleasure of attending an exclusive book signing and lunch at RumbergerKirk. The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to expose young legal talent to distinguished leaders in Miami’s legal community in order to allow the Fellows to develop a deeper understanding of effective leadership while learning about important issues facing Dade Legal Aid and the indigent population of Miami. Members of the Leadership Academy were selected based on professional experience and their dedication to doing more for the community.

At Rumberger, the Fellows sat with Paul Lipton, the author of “Hour of the Wolf: An Experiment in Ageless Living”, who spoke about his book and the inspiration behind it. In the Hour of the Wolf, Lipton shares his personal life experiences and valuable insight on the importance of presence in everyday life. “Paul Lipton’s relevant, deeply personal, honest, thought-provoking advice challenges our standards of success, both personal and professional, and provides a unique perspective on time and legacy. Nicole Grimal Helmstetter, a Fellow Leadership Academy said the Dade Legal Aid Leadership Academy provides a small group of fortunate young lawyers with special opportunities to connect with leaders in the legal community, such as Paul Lipton who encourages young lawyers to measure success and leadership not just by quantity of their engagements, but also through the cumulative impact of individual acts of kindness, even small ones, that result in shaping lives and careers.

Each attendee received a copy of “Hour of the Wolf” and a personal message from the author. Each and every person present was extremely grateful for the opportunity and derived a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration from the experience.
