Week 7

I can’t believe we have already been at Rumberger for seven weeks! This week was another amazing week and I am continuously amazed by how much I have been able to learn over the course of this summer.

I can’t wait to get started on the mock trial

On Monday, we completed the Depositions Workshop with Orlando partner Skip Eubanks. I really enjoyed this workshop because, although I have seen a deposition before, this was my first time being able to craft and ask deposition questions. Skip played a great plaintiff, which allowed me to think on my feet and better understand the deposition process. I love how these workshops allow me to try new things, which will be immensely helpful to my future career.

I worked on an assignment for partner Scott Williams on Wednesday, which involved looking at types of contracts I have not encountered before. I love that every week I have the opportunity to see new areas of the law, most (if not all) of which I have found that I really enjoy. Later that evening, Scott hosted a dinner at his home which was a great way to get to know some of the attorneys in the Birmingham office even better. I am so thankful for the welcoming environment that Rumberger provides.

On Thursday, we all attended the Direct and Cross Examination Seminar. This seminar was led by Miami partners Scott Sarason and Suzanne Singer. It was so much fun, complete with both helpful information and fun movie clips. Scott also provided us with the actual trial transcript and outline for one of his case’s plaintiffs, which was really great to see after creating my own direct and cross examination.

To close out the week, we all attended the Motion Practice Workshop on Friday where we presented an oral argument of our Daubert motions with Orlando partner Samantha Duke. This was a really great experience, and I am so grateful for Samantha’s constructive feedback.

Lastly, one of the highlights of the week was getting our mock trial assignments and partners. I can’t wait to begin the mock trial preparation!

Another busy and exciting week is in the books and I can’t wait to see what else is in store this summer.
